This was supposed to be a blog about a woman who was so excited that all of her friends at rehab nominated her for her accomplishments and she was going to be receiving a FREE cut and color. Her smile beamed from ear to ear and she was so grateful to receive to have her accomplishments recognized. This was supposed to be an “after” picture of her. Her appointment time came, and she was late… 10 min, then 20 -and as more time passed, the more mad I got- I was spending time away from MY family on MY day off . How could someone who was so excited be so late to get their hair done-and on top of it- for FREE!! The minutes continued to pass and I decided To reach out to her friend- who then informed me with the news that made my heart skip a beat …..she was in jail. I knew she did not want to be there- and that the weaknesses and battles she had been fighting, had finally won. I went from mad to extremely sad and feeling defeated. So much progress, and one giant step back. Perhaps it’s not her time. Maybe someone is more deserving. Maybe this will be the turning point in her life and in a year, it will be her time. But for now, I’m looking forward to the next woman in my list. The next one who is paving her way back into society and making a life for her children. At the end of the day if I make a difference in just one life – it makes all of the work and time worth giving.
