Sammy

Hello, I’m Sammy Evers, a blessed mother. Unfortunately before this I struggled with infertility and because of how little it is talked about, I didn’t know much about the subject. I’d like to spread awareness because it is very common for women of all ages.
My husband, Matt, and I tried to conceive for 2.5 years, before I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and was referred to a fertility specialist. Leading up to our first appointment, there were many, many emotions running through us. Nervous. Scared. Curious. Impatient. And the biggest one, excitment! I mean, we’re going to go see a doctor who is going to help us conceive a child, and help us with our dream of becoming parents. We completed our first cycle with an Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) after a couple ultrasounds and clomid. We went home feeling very good about how things went and thought, surely, that we would have a positive test in two weeks. Nope. The second line would not show up. No matter how many times a day or days in a row that I took a test, they were all negative. Maybe we had our hopes too high for the first try. The following month the same thing, another negative. We did a total of five cycles this same way that were all fails.  We were feeling defeated, disappointed, and upset!
The following month, we had a positive cycle! Finally! We were expecting our first child! We were so in love with those little ultrasound pictures and could not have been any happier! The pregnancy was going smoothly, nothing to spike alarm! At 20 weeks, we found out that we were having a little boy! 💙 At 22 weeks along, I spontaneously went into labor. We delivered Koy Matthew on February 19, 2016 and held him in our arms for 2 hours and 20 minutes before he peacefully passed away. That sweet boy knew nothing but love in his time here on earth. We now have an amazing guardian angel looking over our family!
We worked up the courage to go back to see our fertility specialist again. Now, we don’t just have to worry about getting pregnant, we also have the worry of keeping the pregnancy and holding the baby to term. After two failed cycles of IUI’s, we fell pregnant! I had miscarried this pregnancy around 7 weeks gestation. Why is this happening to us? Will we ever become parents?
Two months later, we had another successful pregnancy! We made it through that scary first trimester with a little progesterone booster. Our fears weren’t over yet, though. We now knew that one can lose a baby at any point in pregnancy. Due to our first being born prematurely, we had to do some extra testing, monitoring and weekly injections from 16 weeks on. I ended up having a total of 13 ultrasounds throughout this pregnancy. Around 22 weeks, my cervix began to shorten. Fast. My specialist gave me steroid shots around 25 weeks, telling me to expect the baby to be born within a couple weeks. The steroid shots were to help mature the baby’s lungs for a better chance of survival when born prematurely. Terrified, I decided to stop working and rest until the baby comes, for 12.5 weeks. I thanked God every day that my baby was still inside! At 37.5 weeks, we welcomed Wade Andy on June 29, 2017. 💙
Knowing we wanted more children and unsure of how long it would take us to conceive again, we began seeing our specialist when Wade was around 5 months old. We had one  successful IUI cycle, lost at 6 weeks and decided that we really weren’t in any hurry. We took some time off for ourselves and Wade and took a family vacation.
Boom! We ended up pregnant the following month! Without any fertility medication! We also did extra monitoring and weekly injections with this pregnancy as well. Only this time, we had zero problems!! I carried our baby girl for 37.5 weeks. Remi May was born on October 9, 2018. 💜
Four months later, we were surprised with a positive pregnancy test! We found out that we are expecting again! Due October 4, 2019. 💛
We started with a very bumpy path to becoming parents, but coming out super, super blessed! Having  four babies in four years may not appeal to everyone’s ideals of parenting, but we love it and know it’s just what God had planned for us! I hope our story can shed some light and give someone dealing with infertility some hope and positive vibes! It’s never a dream you should give up on, you never know what God has in store for you!
